Does this video show a Muslim army in Kerela? No, the viral claim is misleading!
A video of a fashion show has gone viral on social media. Social media users have alleged that the viral video shows a “Muslim army” marching through the streets of Kerala. Similar claims have gone viral in previous cases showing members of the Muslim Union of India League as part of a ‘Muslim army’.
The video shows a procession with people dressed in military attire marching to the beat. People in blue uniforms appear to be carrying a banner with texts on it, and shouts of “Allahu Akbar” (God is the greatest) can be heard in the video.
A Twitter user, while sharing this video, wrote a caption that read, “You’d be wrong to think it’s Pakistan or Afghanistan. This is the Unity March of the SDPI – Kerala unit. Do you fear for your life? You should “.
The claim in the viral video reads: “Muslim private army marches in Kerala. Left front government is a silent spectator.
The video is going viral through Facebook as well, with a similar caption.
This claim indicates that the video shows an all-Muslim army marching through Kerala, which is portrayed as a threat to Hindus.
The Logical Indian Fact Check team verified the virus claim and found it to be false. The viral video is from 2020.
We watched the video closely and noticed that a banner is displayed in the opening shots of the video. After identifying the keyframe, we performed a reverse image search.
Reverse image search led us to this article from Coastaldigest.com, which was about the Unity March organized by the People’s Front of India. We did a keyword search for the terms ‘Unity March’ and ‘People’s Front of India’.
We came across videos that provide more context to the viral video. These videos uploaded by the People’s Front of India show party members marching in blue uniforms. The banner displays the following text in Malayalam, “Indian Unity Popular Front March.”
People’s Front of India was established in February 2007 and is a cadre-based mass organization. It is the parent organization of the Social Democratic Party of India and has a student team, Campus Front of India.
The party has been heavily criticized by right-wing Hindu groups and members of the BJP government. According to this Quint article, there has been a growing outcry demanding a ban on PFI.
After a new search on the YouTube channel of the Front Populaire, we video found which was uploaded to the channel on February 24, 2020. The video shows multiple instances present in the viral video.
To sum up, the viral post claims that the procession in the video is a private Muslim army marching in Kerala. On the contrary, the video shows a marching procession of the Indian Popular Front on the occasion of the founding day of the political outfit, February 17, 2020.
