TheGrio is strongly strengthening its editorial staff. It is an investment in the core competencies of the business. These jobs will be primarily based in New York and Atlanta. Some of the positions will be opportunities to work from other cities or entirely remotely. TheGrio is looking for a Podcast Audio / Video Editor to work on our list of new podcasts. The ideal candidate will have professional experience in podcasts, audio and video production, as well as studio and field recording. The ideal candidate will be able to put together compelling stories from interviews, audio clips and commentary, and to collaborate fully with podcast hosts and producers.
Candidates must have at least two years of experience on audio or digital platforms, master audio production tools (ProTools, Audition or Audacity) and meet deadlines.
Execute missions with a solid understanding of TheGrio’s voice, brand, and mission.
Excellent audio editing, special effects, and creative sound design.
Work with podcast producers to shape and execute ambitious storytelling work.
Shape the edit around the concepts of the episode and provide editorial input.
Work as a team, able to communicate clearly with key stakeholders.
Collaborate with hosts and media teams to respond to their vision and clarify the storyline when setting up episode interviews, but also feel comfortable working independently.
Willingness to collaborate across all platforms, products and businesses.
Make sure every show meets the highest audio quality standards.
Editing of 6 to 10 show episodes each week on time.
Cooperates in production and post-production.
Diligently follow schedules and workflows for all podcasts.
Ensure the accurate and timely management of an audio, archive and music library.
Manage time to keep podcast episodes and special features on regular production schedules.
Search for audio material for each episode.
Guarantee the highest quality audio and video products.
Guide and support the juniors on the modifications.
Manage downloads and publishing of episodes, and organize files in a storage system.
Maintain standards and guidelines for practice.
Proactively support a healthy newsroom culture with high performance and quality commitments.
Help the team solve technical problems and anticipate technical needs.
Keeps abreast of news and current affairs relating to Black America and the Diaspora.
Education / Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in communications, journalism, web production or related field preferred.
At least 3 years of experience producing digital content in a large news network or online news publication.
Have a solid understanding of rights and permissions, and carefully track sources of material for licensing.
Must have expert level experience with all aspects of digital video production.
Demonstrated knowledge of online production and multimedia storytelling, online publishing systems and technologies.
Proven ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Demonstrated organizational and time management skills and works well under deadline pressure.
Story-driven editing and production experience.
Good knowledge of current events.
Passionate about amplifying current affairs and black culture.
